Overview
The trail extension connects Farnsworth Community Park to the river overlook with a new paved path and a boardwalk across the wetland area. It gives walkers and cyclists a continuous route from the park to downtown.
The project is funded by the city's capital improvement budget and a state recreational trails grant.
Resources
Trail map and route
The extension adds a paved trail from the park's south entrance along the creek to the river overlook. A boardwalk crosses the wetland area, and benches are placed every quarter mile.
Accessibility
The trail is built to accessible grades with a firm, stable surface, and every bench area has a level space beside it for a wheelchair or stroller.
Updates
The path between the south parking lot and the playground is closed while the new trail is connected. Please follow the detour signs along the sidewalk.
- Parking lots stay open.
- The playground and restrooms can be reached from the east entrance.
Footings for the boardwalk over the wetland area are in place, and decking is being installed from the north end. The existing loop trail stays open during this work.
Residents joined city staff and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to break ground on the trail extension. Crews began clearing the route along the creek the following week.
